Life @ the Library: YPL Launches New Logo, New Website

By Nancy Maron, President, Board of Trustees, Yonkers Public Library

Just when you thought you knew everything about the Yonkers Public Library, look again!

This week is National Library Week and to celebrate, YPL is unveiling its new logo and a fresh new website.

The new YPL logo may surprise some people. It is a little abstract. It is a little off-center. It is solid but includes lots of space. It looks like a “Y”… or is that a bird taking flight? A book with wings? A Tangram puzzle? The answer is … Yes!

The logo employs bold colors recalling the mid-Century design and colors of the Will Library and its iconic sunshades, while nodding to the hues of the Hudson River. We loved the way the design takes the letter “Y” and modifies it to suggest motion and transformation. And the way that no two people see the exact same thing when they first look at it. This logo embodies both the solidity of YPL as an institution that people have come to depend on, as well as the sense of creativity and inspiration that we want YPL to continue to foster in all who engage with it.

You’ll start to see this new logo on all of our promotional materials, and… on the newly redesigned YPL.org website, which also launches this week. The new logo and website were designed by the award-winning design firm LibraryMarket, with input from YPL leadership, staff, and the YPL Board.

The library is celebrating its new look all week. Patrons are invited to come to the library to exchange their old cards for new ones with the fresh new look. Library cards with the new logo are available in English and Spanish.

See you at the library!
