Yorktown Par 3 Now A Lake

most of the 9 holes at Valley Field golf course in Jefferson Valley, Yorktown, are under water

The celebration at Valley Fields Golf Course for its opening just two weeks ago in now over, with Town officials and the new operators huddled up in the clubhouse on Monday July 10 trying to determine why the 9-hole layout flooded so badly after a severe storm on July 9.

Both the course and the bar-restaurant in the clubhouse were in good use, with golfers and Yorktown residents curious about what was built. Last year, the Town Board, under the leadership of Supervisor Matt Slater, cancelled the contract with the previous operator, RC Recreation. RC had the job of renovating a golf course and dilapidated clubhouse that was closed for more than a decade. Delays beyond their control included an inability to get materials during COVID, but by last fall, RC had completed 90% of the renovations when their right to see the fruits of their labor and investment were taken away.

RC is in the middle of a lawsuit it filed against the Town and Slater, claiming that they have a 10-year contract extension to renovate the course that extends until 2028. RC Principal Larry Nussbaum has consistently held that Yorktown “does not have title” to the improvements on the parkland parcel which include the renovated Valley Fields Golf Course and Valley Fields Grille and Restaurant in the new clubhouse until there is an “executed settlement” with a legal hand off, with RC’s title duly signed over to the Town.

RC has also filed suit against Yorktown Group Golf, the new company hired by the town to open the course.
