Yonkers Wrestling Event Draws Over 800 for My Brother’s Keeper Night of Unity

On Friday, March 14, My Brother’s Keeper Yonkers (MBK Yonkers) delivered an unforgettable night of wrestling and community engagement to a city where large-scale family events are rare. More than 800 attendees packed The Arena at Yonkers Middle High School for the MBK Community Night Out Wrestling Event, bringing together students, families, and staff for an electrifying evening celebrating unity, community, and opportunity.

The event featured exciting performances from former WWE stars and local WrestlePro wrestlers, who energized the crowd while highlighting the strength of the community.

“We have the opportunity to offer the community more here in Yonkers,” said MBK Yonkers Executive Director Dr. Jason Baez. “In other communities, I have witnessed how wrestling events can bring families and the community together. That was the goal here – to create something for families to enjoy – and we succeeded.”

While the matches delivered high-energy action, the real highlight was the connections formed in the crowd. Staff and attendees alike felt the impact, with one longtime staff member saying, “I’ve been here for over 25 years, and this is the best event I’ve attended.”

Students from multiple schools in Yonkers shared their excitement with chants of “MBK! MBK! MBK!” filling the venue. Young students were imitating the performances, forming friendships, waving MBK signs, and celebrating the sense of community. The energy was electric, and the enthusiasm didn’t stop when the matches ended.

“Right after the event, WrestlePro was reaching out to me with bigger ideas for future collaborations,” said Dr. Baez. “Their excitement, along with the overwhelming energy from our students, families, and staff, is exactly why we want to make this an annual tradition – bringing families together year after year. This is just the beginning.”

“Events like these showcase what makes Yonkers so special – our community spirit, diversity, and commitment to coming together for our youth,” said Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Anibal Soler, Jr. “I’m proud of the way our students and families turned out to celebrate, and we’re excited to support more community-driven experiences in the future.”

In the days leading up to the event, MBK Yonkers experienced a significant spike in social media activity, including a 600% increase in Instagram engagement – with nearly 78% coming from new followers. This surge in digital engagement underscores the strong community interest and sets the stage for future growth.

For Baez, the overwhelming enthusiasm and turnout reinforced just how impactful community-driven events can be – seeing families and students come together in such a meaningful way was a powerful moment.

Beyond the action in the ring, the event significantly boosted awareness of MBK Yonkers, highlighting the initiative’s commitment to building a strong, inclusive community for young men of color and their families. MBK Yonkers is already planning future events to continue bringing the community together.
