On August 17, Mayor Mike Spano welcomed 24 new firefighters on behalf of the people of Yonkers. “It takes a certain kind of person to take on the challenge of becoming one of Yonkers’ bravest. This week, I welcomed a class of 24 new firefighters and they have undergone the finest training to ensure their commitment to keeping Yonkers safe.
“It was also a historic day. We welcomed the first-ever African-American female firefighter in the city’s history, Fatima Taylor. It was an eventful day, filled with joy and excitement, but my message to all the graduates was simple, “Know that you have the full support of this administration.”
Firefighter Taylor becomes the second woman in the Yonkers Fire Department.
