Congressman Bowman’s Tweet Draws Criticism: Is It OK for Electeds to Curse Online

One of our readers of both Yonkers Rising and YonkersTimes.com sent us the following letter to the editor:

Mr. Murphy, thanks for your coverage of Yonkers in both the print edition and online. I can’t read the other crap from bloggers and creeps.

I may be old fashioned, but it disturbed me to see that our Congressmember, Jamaal Bowman, basically cursed in public when he tweeted WTF when he found out that his district was going to run north of Westchester. To me that is not acceptable behavior from a member of Congress.

It comes down to what do we want our children and students to see. Is this the example that Mr. Bowman, who I believe was a teacher himself, wants to set. I understand that he quickly deleted his tweet, but it reminds me of the kind of crap that former President Trump used to tweet.

That was an embarrassment and so was this. Thanks Diane Boxer, Yonkers

Editor’s Note: Ms. Boxer, thanks for the letter. I would remind you and our readers of one of my beliefs, which is that our elected officials should be held to a HIGHER standard of morals and ethics.
