Yonkers Public Library & Yonkers Arts Present, I Am a Hero Free Comic Book Workshop

Yonkers Public Library (YPL) is proud to join forces with Yonkers Arts to launch the I AM a Hero: Comic Book Creation Workshop. This is a FREE five-week virtual program created by Evan Bishop that challenges student-heroes to create their authentic superhero that resembles themselves and uses superpowers to take on relative social issues that affect themselves and others.

The creation of this hero is about celebrating the cultural, physical, and personal aspects that make them unique. “The student-heroes will explore, empower and express who they are through the medium of comic book art, all while having fun with other such heroes,” says Evan Bishop.

The I AM a Hero virtual program kicks off the first week of April, where pre-registered participants will log onto the designated online video conferencing platform for 90-minutes each week over five weeks. They will learn, discuss and share the development of their hero. Those that attend all five sessions and present their multi-paged comic book will receive a certificate of completion from Evan Bishop, founder and facilitator of the workshop. They will also be provided the opportunity to showcase their comic book cover as an exhibition in a gallery setting.

The intent behind this workshop is to encourage young people to express themselves and share unique ideas about issues that affect the larger society.

The workshop starts on April 7th, from 4pm-530 pm on Zoom. To RSVP please email Rayw@yonkersarts.org, or Jmontero@ypl.org.
