National Search Begins for Next Leader
Library Director Edward Falcone has announced that he will retire from his position this December, after 14 years in the Yonkers Public Library system – the last five as library director. During his tenure, Falcone has been responsible for many significant projects including creating Tech Central, the first-of-its-kind technology and education center at Riverfront Library; the re-imagining of the iconic facade at Grinton I. Will Branch; and reinstating “Summer Sundays” at all three branches.
“It has been a privilege to direct an organization that employs so many talented and dedicated people,” said Falcone. “My time at YPL has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me, both professionally and personally, and the memories I will take with me will be treasured.”
Yonkers is the largest public library system in Westchester County, with its three branches serving a diverse population of nearly 200,000. Under Falcone’s leadership, the library has been recognized as a critical community resource partnering with the City of Yonkers, Yonkers Public Schools, Westchester County government and a wide array of organizations throughout the city.
“Congratulations to Ed on a successful and productive career,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “Ed’s work for the Yonkers Public Library system has been stellar, shepherding new technology and programs that enlighten and engage our community. On behalf of our Yonkers residents, I thank Ed for his dedication to our residents and libraries. I wish him a happy and healthy retirement.”

The Board of Trustees has hired the consulting firm Library Development Solutions to conduct a national search for the next library director.
