Yonkers Native and Air Force Veteran in Police Academy to Join the Yonkers Finest

Probationary Police Officer Dejuan Morrison

In honor of Black History Month, we’re checking in with one of our newest Officers in the Police Academy, Probationary Police Officer Dejuan Morrison. PPO Morrison joins us after serving in the Air Force and is now proud to have joined our ranks. Let’s hear from him below:

Tell us something about yourself:

Yonkers has been my home for most of my life. Even when I moved away to attend Universal Technical Institute, I always found my way back. I graduated from Lincoln High School in 2016. Before joining one of the best families on earth (the Yonkers Police Department), I served in the United States Air Force.

What made you want to become a Yonkers Police Officer?

As a child, I participated in the P.A.L. poster contest and have always looked up to law enforcement. When it was time to choose a lifelong career, my local police department was one of the first and best options I considered. This career gives me the chance to build a comfortable future for my family, do something valuable that I can be proud of, and most importantly, make a difference in my own community.

How does this career compare to your previous job?

My time in the Air Force instilled in me a deep understanding of structure and discipline, qualities that are essential in policing. The major difference is that here, not only am I making a difference in the world, but more significantly, in our community! In this line of work, we are running low on young men and women, especially people of color, who are willing to keep our city safe and serve our community. It’s never too late to make a difference in your life and your community.
