YMA Lady Eagles, 11-4, on The Rise

College Scouts Coming to Games!

The YMA Lady Eagles are having a tremendous season so far. Right now they are currently 11-4.  At the midway point of their season, the YMA Lady Eagles Basketball team went on a spectacular run.

The Lady Eagles went 6-2 in a span that saw them beat Bronxville, Dobbs Ferry, Woodlands, and Hastings high School. Unfortunately the Lady Eagles could not overcome the Irvington Bulldogs with legendary coach Gina Maher, and Albertus Magnus High School.

The ladies success is no accident. They work hard all year, with AAU, summer and Fall ball. These ladies work continuously, and tirelessly in order to compete in Section 1. We have been fortunate to have a few college coaches attend almost every game we have played so far this season. In years past this was unheard of.

There are thirteen girls on the team, and our rotation is about 9 girls.  Of those 9 girls 4 of them have been in constant communication with college coaches, and were offered roster spots at various colleges and universities.

Some of the schools that have recruited, and showed interests in recruiting our players are Columbia University, Mercy College, Robert Wesleyan College, Monroe College, Mount Saint Mary College, Manhattanville, Mount Saint Vincent, Umass-Dartmouth, Purchase College, CCNY, and Mount Holyoke College.

The list in extensive. The girls have completely changed the narrative that college coaches don’t come to games. They do at YMA, and one staff in particular even came down to watch an entire practice. This year the 2022-2023 team is captained by Ana Ndoci, and Sinead McGourty.

Coach Elie Moise said, “We are fortunate to have a great group of parents, and kids, along with community support. Without their help we could not do this. Our parents have made a consorted effort to keep their kids in YMA, and it has paid dividends. For years my goal was to compete outside of Yonkers and to try and bring respectability to Yonkers athletics. I think we are doing that with each win outside of the city. The credit goes out to the parents, and their kids! I always tell our girls, the kids make the program, not the coach. It is the kids, parents and community, and we are fortunate for that fact!”
