WJCS Volunteers Pack Winter Hug Care Packages on MLK Jr. Day for Mary Blige Center in Yonkers

More than 95 volunteers gathered at Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) Headquarters in White Plains on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for a Family Volunteer Event. Children and their parents assembled 50 Winter Hug Care Packages filled with soup cans, hot cocoa packets, tea bags, milk cartons, mittens, Teddy Bears, and hats that will be distributed families in need through our Food Pantry at the WJCS Mary J. Blige Center in Yonkers, NY.

Participants also donated 20 cases of pasta, rice, beans, crackers, cereal, shelf stable milk, and more. “These community donations of essential goods are so important to people in need during this time of financial hardship,” said Amanda Garfinkle, WJCS Chief Advancement Officer. “We are so grateful to all of our volunteers and the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) of Westchester who helped make the event run smoothly and assisted the children pack the boxes and make fleece hats.”

The WJCS Food Pantry serves about 250 families, providing vital food supplies that support over 600 individuals that reside in Yonkers and nearby areas. The gratitude expressed by families for the food donations has been heartfelt. “Knowing they can access crucial staples to supplement their groceries offers them hope and stability amid ongoing financial hardships. We are profoundly grateful for the support that makes this possible,” said Garfinkle.
