A Life of Public Service to Eastchester Remembered
ANTHONY J. COLAVITA peacefully passed on October 13th, 2024 in his home in Eastchester. He was eighty-eight (88) years old. He was the son of Saverio Colavita and Giuseppina Giuliano Colavita. He is survived by his lifelong love and wife Margaret R. (McGorty) Colavita and his sons Anthony S. Colavita (Susan) and John and his daughter Christine (Peter) Latara, together with his grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Caroline, Olivia Grace, Peter, William and Andrew. His sisters Joanne (Daniel) Cuoco and Anne Colavita, his brother in law John (Susan) McGorty and his sister in law Kathy (Stan) Scher also survived him together with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was a lifelong resident of Eastchester. He attended Archbishop Stepinac High School, Fairfield University and Fordham University School of Law. He was the Town of Eastchester Deputy Town Attorney, Town Attorney, and Town Supervisor for ten years. During his tenure as Supervisor, he was instrumental in acquiring Lake Isle Country Club for the Town and its residents, which is still enjoyed by all today.
He maintained an active law practice for multiple decades. He was appointed to the New York State Thruway Authority and served as a Director on multiple Gabelli/Gamco Mutual Funds. He was the Westchester Republican County Committee Chair for many years as well as the NYS Republican State Committee Chair. Many a call was made from the White House to his residence in Eastchester. He was synonymous with politics in Westchester County. Many remember the Friday Lunch group at Alex and Henry’s Restaurant, reported on by the New York Times.
He was a volunteer firefighter and served on numerous community organizations, fund raising committees and did significant pro bono legal work for not-for-profit organizations. He was a member of the Eastchester Italian American Citizens Club and Eastchester Irish American Social Club and other organizations throughout the County.
He was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the accordion (no matter what the hour) and was a big Jet fan who loved going to games with his children and grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
He was remarkably generous and was able to help many people throughout his life. We all enjoyed his terrific sense of humor and benefited from his deep wisdom. He was most proud of his family and extended family and his best moments were with the ones he loved.
His immeasurable heart will be missed.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 18th at Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, NY 10709 and the funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 9:15 am on Saturday, October 19th. Interment to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery.
