Geraldina Shabani in her Hartsdale store making masks for first responders and the pubic

Many small businesses are facing difficult times during the coronavirus pandemic – yours truly included. Thanks to the help of Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner, I found out about Geraldina’s Couture, located at 12 East Hartdale Ave., Hartsdale.

Geraldina’s is known for its one-of-a-kind wedding dresses, high-end gowns for special occasions, prom dresses, vintage designed garments and custom-designed clothing. But in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak, Geraldina’s has become creative, and is providing a useful product for first responders – and all of the people of Westchester.

“Our store has fashioned a large quantity of cotton masks, with different colors and print options for men and women, and sizes for kids available,” said owner Geraldina Shabani. “We have 600 in stock and our staff of three is producing more every day. These are solely intended to provide a basic layer of protection that can be washed and dried in response to this shortage.

“With everyone taking maximum care to keep (good) hygiene and limit our time outdoors, we can all hope for the local and global community to emerge stronger and with healthier habits. Each washable mask is $7, or $6 for orders over 20. For police officers, EMTs, firefighters, nurses and doctors, we offer them for $4, and we will give some for free on orders over 20. While businesses are closing, we are still keeping our employees paid and able to support each other.

“Until there is a resolution in sight, our store will limit clientele to no more than two clients in the store at one time, and encourage our clients to only come in by appointment to ensure we can provide attentive and safe service for both you and our staff,” continued Shabani. “For those who do not have access to medical protection due to the shortage, our store has fashioned a large quantity of cotton masks intended to provide a basic layer of protection for the general public that can be thoroughly washed and dried. With everyone taking maximum care to the best of their ability, we can all hope for this storm to pass and for the local and global community to emerge stronger and with healthier habits sooner.”

Here is an opportunity for all of us in Westchester to support our local businesses. Geraldina’s Couture will also ship masks, depending on your location and quantity. Contact them for large orders at info@geraldinascouture.com or 914-607-2643.

There are several Westchester businesses stepping up and manufacturing products to help us through COVID-19. We will try to highlight them every week. If you have a business for us to highlight, email dmurphy@risingmediagroup.com.
