L-R: Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services Susan Spear; Commissioner of Emergency Services Richard Wishnie; Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo

Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo, District 14 (Yonkers and Mount Vernon), is proud to have voted on and passed the FY2023 Westchester County budget, which includes an increase in the capacities of the County’s Department of Emergency Services.

The 2023 Emergency Services Budget includes six new positions and a $4.2 million increase in the Department’s budget from FY2022.  Some highlights of this year’s budget include, but are not limited to: the creation of fire prevention and education programs through social media; the transition of the former Parks EMS unit into the County EMS system; completion of a planning effort for a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation plan that will enable municipalities to receive Federal grant funding for mitigation projects; an update of Westchester County’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan; and enhance preparedness for natural gas transmission pipeline hazards.

Legislator Tubiolo added, “Giving our first responders the tools, training, and appreciation is paramount for keeping our residents safe.” Additionally, Legislator Tubiolo is pleased to support Rescue Task Force training in schools in coordination with local law enforcement, fire, and EMS and support the funding for training and equipment initiatives that increase Westchester County’s emergency preparedness.
