At a gala cocktail party chaired by Mike Ramondelli and Untermyer Performing Arts Council Treasurer Pauline Galvin, UPAC celebrated its 43rd anniversary and the launch of its 44th season May 2 at the Olde Stone Mill.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Griffon Awards to four recipients who have made outstanding contributions to UPAC and the performing arts in the City of Yonkers. This year’s recipients were Henry Djonbalaj, Silvia Metrena-Nunez, Top Class Limousine and Homefield Deli.

Henry Djonbalaj is someone who cares about the people of Yonkers, whether serving on the Parks Board, the Industrial Development Agency, the McLean Avenue Merchants Association or the Aisling Irish Community Center, or advocating for the local Albanian community. In that vein, his commitment to the performing arts and UPAC is outstanding, advocating not only for the council, but also for the people of Yonkers.

Djonbalaj’s entire family has volunteered at summer Saturday evening performances, making his service truly a family affair.

Silvia Metrena-Nunez, a long time board member, serves as UPAC counsel, meticulously crafting dozens of contracts for performers each year, in between running a successful law firm, being a mom to four children, and a wife.

Not only is Top Class Limousine founder John Khader a major proponent of Yonkers, he is a supporter of UPAC and Yonkers Idol. For many years, Top Class has supplied limousine transportation for Yonkers Idol, one of the programs sponsored by UPAC, giving future celebrities a taste of true star treatment.

Homefield Deli has been more than generous to UPAC over the years. Nick and Chrissy Theodoropolis and Homefield Deli quietly support the council, whether supplying refreshments for the holiday tree lighting every year or helping with snacks, they have been generous to UPAC and always go above and beyond for the Yonkers community.

Entertainment that evening was provided by local musician Victor La Gamma and 2019 Yonkers Idol winner Ada Victoria Israel.

The Untermyer Performing Arts Council is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to continuing the tradition of Minnie and Samuel Untermyer, raising funds throughout the year to bring musical entertainment to the park. Proceeds raised from this event will help fund the summer season at Untermyer Park, World Fest 2019, and our many other programs throughout the rest of the year.
