To celebrate the USA’s 250th Birthday, all 38 Westchester Libraries will read: The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams

The John C. Hart Memorial Library will participate in the first One County, One Read initiative, a Westchester-wide literary event designed to foster community through a shared reading experience.

In honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, all 38 public libraries in Westchester County will encourage residents to read the same book: The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff. The acclaimed biography explores the political brilliance of Samuel Adams, providing a detailed look at the strategic maneuvers that birthed the revolutionary era.

“I can’t think of a more appropriate way to recognize our country’s 250th anniversary than to join together to read about one of the most influential founding fathers of our nation,” said Hart library director Yvonne Cech, chair of the One County, One Read committee.

One County, One Read’s highlights include:

  • Book Giveaway: Starting in February, the John C. Hart Library will give away 50 free copies of The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams. Visit the library website: yorktownlibrary.org for details for a chance to win.
  • Meet The Author: On April 25 at 3:00 p.m., Schiff will appear in person at the Grinton I. Will Library in Yonkers during an event sponsored by the Westchester Library System. Mary Calvi, a 14-time Emmy Award-winning anchor and historical novelist, will join Schiff in conversation.
  • Book Signing: Both Schiff and Calvi will be available to sign books following the discussion.

While admission to the April 25 event is free, tickets are required and can be reserved online. The Hart Library will host various Revolutionary War-themed programs throughout the year to continue the celebration of America’s independence.
