Susan Cacace, the endorsed Democrat for Westchester District Attorney, recently announced that she has accepted invitations to two debates ahead of the June Primary. Cacace feels it is paramount to provide voters with an opportunity to hear directly from her about why she feels she is the best candidate for DA. The first debate will be hosted by the Mount Vernon NAACP and will take place on April 25th at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. The second debate will be hosted by News12 and will take place in May on a date to be determined. It is unknown whether her opponents have agreed to participate in either debate, but Cacace is hopeful they will join in.
“Considering the importance of the role of the District Attorney and how the safety of our community is intrinsically tied to who is elected, it is vital that voters have as much information as possible about the candidates in this primary,” said Cacace. “Once petitions are filed and the candidate field is set, the public will have a chance to hear from all of those who will be on the ballot. I look forward to participating in these debates which will be hosted by two organizations known for their objectivity and fairness.”
“I’m proud of my record as an attorney, as a prosecutor and as a judge, for my work in keeping our communities safe and in delivering justice with compassion for all,” she continued. “Each case, each defendant, and each victim are different. Accountability doesn’t always have to lead to incarceration. Westchester needs a DA who has participated in all aspects of our criminal justice system and who will bring that experience to this critical office.”
Cacace made the announcement after several group criticized her decision not to attend a recent DA forum. The Westchester Coalition for Police Reform, led by co-founder Kenneth Chamberlain Jr, the Urban League of Westchester and WESPAC Foundation, expresses deep disappointment and dissatisfaction with “Judge Susan Cacace’s refusal to participate in the forum, broadcast by Black Westchester.
