The “Dream Lives on” at Dr. MLK Jr. Breakfast at Nepperhan Community Center -Yonkers

On January 20, City Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy and the City of Yonkers hosted the annual MLK Jr. Breakfast at the Nepperhan Community Center

This year’s honorees included Joanne & Roberta Robinson with Keeper of the Flame awards & Cheryl Brannan with Keeper of the Dream award.

Students from the YPS My Brother’s Keeper program were in attendance, and together with the Yonkers Knockouts served as Student Ambassadors. Roosevelt HS Senior Jasmine Pugh was one of the speakers.

“It was truly uplifting to see the community come together in such a meaningful way, serving as a powerful reminder of Dr. King’s vision for justice, equality, and peace. As we reflect on these images and moments captured, we are reminded of our collective commitment to advancing his work and upholding his values in our communities,” said Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy.

The MLK Jr. Breakfast served as a beautiful reminder of the power of community and the vital role each individual plays in shaping a brighter future for Yonkers. Joanne & Roberta Robinson recipients of the “Keeper of the Flame Award,” has dedicated her life to advocating for social justice and ensuring that the voices of the marginalized are heard. Cheryl Brannan, honored with the “Keeper of the Dream Award,” exemplifies the spirit of hope that Dr. King envisioned.
