Sister to Sister International, Inc., will be accepting applications through May 25 for its fun and informative annual two-week Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math Camp for middle- and high-school black girls and girls of color.
The STEAM Camp take place Monday, June 25 through Friday, July 6 at the Yonkers Riverfront Library from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for nine days (closed July 4). This program is designed for black girls and girls of color who are significantly under-represented in STEAM and health careers. Students must be a resident or attend school in the Hudson Valley to qualify for admission.
STSI’s unique, culturally relevant summer camp is well-rounded, including academic enrichment – featuring an advance review of the student’s upcoming math and science courses with certified teachers; life-skills, including greater self-awareness, esteem building, leadership, teamwork, etiquette and public speaking; along with social action and global awareness. The camp will expose girls to STEAM and health career role models and mentors. Activities will include interactive projects, lectures, and exploratory field trips to STEAM-related businesses and destinations.
This year’s camp will be the best yet, with new field trips and workshops, along with an arts jam, public speaking and etiquette, and personal development opportunities.
Former STEAM Camp students have shared the following testimonials: “I liked the camp. I thought it would be boring but it wasn’t;” “Great hospitality! Very fun! Enjoyed it very much;” and “I really learned a lot and it was nice to make many new friends.”
The STEAM Camp only has a limited number of slots and requires a nominal registration fee of $100 upon acceptance.
The application deadline is Friday, May 25. To request an application, visit s2si.org; for more information, call 914-207-0368 or email stsionthemove@gmail.com.
