Former Indian Hill has been closed since 2007, something for all golfers to look forward to
By Dan Murphy
Longtime Yorktown residents and golfers in the area will remember Indian Hill Par 3 Golf Course in Jefferson Valley, located on Route 6 across the street from the JV Mall. The course was a starting point for many young golfers, and their families to play 9 holes of short par 3’s. I can remember playing their with my mom in the 1980’s. There was a clubhouse with a bar for the “10th Hole” for anyone who wanted a beverage after. The course will know be known as Shallow Creek.
The course closed in 2007 and has not opened since the property was donated to the town. Yorktown resident and golfer Rocco Cambareri tried to reopen the course for several years but passed away in j2017. His company RC Recreation, led by Sean Murphy, is looking to open the course this spring or summer. The Yorktown Planning Board recentlty approved the site plan, which clears the way for final approval.
The property is close to wetlands and has a creek that runs through a few of the holes, and while the Town had originally thought of keeping it as a passive recreation park, the final determination was keeping it as a golf course was the best use. The owners have a lease through 2028, which pays the town a small rental fee.
This golf course, and the old Lock Ledge Golf Course on Route 118, were two courses closed for a number of years. Now that one course will be soon open to the public, we look forward to teeing off soon.
