Students at the Charter School of Educational Excellence will explore the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss with a production of “Seussical the Musical” on May 16 and 17.

“Seussical” weaves together the beloved tales and characters of Dr. Seuss in a captivating musical journey. Horton the Elephant, the kind-hearted creature who discovers a speck of dust inhabited by the tiny Whos, takes center stage alongside the mischievous Cat in the Hat. Through catchy tunes and imaginative storytelling, “Seussical” explores themes of friendship, loyalty, perseverance, and the power of imagination.

This vibrant show marks the second annual musical production staged by the school’s students since the opening of their state-of-the-art auditorium. The modern facility boasts a 600-seat capacity, cutting-edge audio-visual capabilities, and a large projection screen, providing an immersive experience for both performers and audience members.

The new stage reflects the Charter School of Educational Excellence’s commitment to providing students with unique and valuable learning opportunities. Beyond the thrill of performance, students gain hands-on experience in staging and rigging, skills that are increasingly relevant in the burgeoning media production industry in Yonkers.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano’s office has highlighted the significant growth of the media sector, noting that at Great Point Studios, a remarkable 60% of employees reside in or hail from Yonkers, with many being graduates of Yonkers Public Schools. The skills cultivated at the Charter School of Educational Excellence’s new stage aim to equip students with a competitive edge as they look towards future career paths.

Showtimes for “Seussical the Musical” are 7 p.m. on May 16, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on May 17. Tickets cost $10. Click here to buy tickets. The Charter School of Educational Excellence is located at 260 Warburton Avenue, Yonkers.
