Serial Groper Gets Three Year Jail Sentence for Yonkers Sexual Assaults

A Yonkers man who sexually abused a woman as she was entering her apartment in the City of Yonkers, and was later identified in three other forcible touching incidents, was sentenced to prison on Oct. 12, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced.

Andre Degree, 26, was sentenced, after pleading guilty to Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a felony, to three years in state prison, with 10 years’ post-release supervision. Upon his release from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender.

On September 24, 2020, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Degree approached a woman from behind who was entering her building in Yonkers, forced her pants down and sexually assaulted her. A struggle ensued and Degree fled the scene, with the woman chasing after him for several blocks while on the phone with the Yonkers Police Department until she lost sight of him.

Yonkers Police arrested Degree on October 1, 2020, after reviewing surveillance videos. Following his arrest, Degree was later identified in three separate forcible touching incidents that took place in the same area on August 3, 2020, September 4, 2020, and September 23, 2020.

The case was before Judge Susan Cacace in Westchester County Court and was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Marissa Morra-Wynn.

Kudos to the woman who fought back, chased down the defendant and called Yonkers Police. And to the Yonkers Police for making the arrest.
