Senator Shelley Mayer Announces Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Enrollment is Open to Assist New Yorkers with Cost of Home Heating

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer announced today that enrollment is now open for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). This program can help eligible New Yorkers heat and cool their homes. Eligibility and benefits are based on income, household size, primary heating source, and the presence of a household member who is under age 6, age 60 or older, or permanently disabled.

Your household may be eligible for a Regular HEAP benefit if: your household’s gross monthly income is at or below the current income guidelines for your household size, you receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, you receive federally funded Temporary Assistance (TA) or you receive Code A Supplemental Security Income (SSI Living Alone).

For more information and to find out if you qualify, visit: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/heap/. Senator Mayer’s office is also available to assist. Please call 914-934-5250 or email smayer@nysenate.gov

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “I am very pleased that New York State has opened applications for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) to help ease the financial burden for eligible households this winter and keep their homes warm. When my Senate colleagues and I return to Albany in the new year, we will continue working hard to pass legislation and take meaningful action to address the utility affordability crisis. In the meantime, HEAP benefits will provide relief to many households in need. I encourage everyone who is eligible to apply and, as always, my office is ready to assist.”
