Senator Shelley B. Mayer and Assemblymember Amy Paulin on Veto of Bill to Help Non-Profit Contracting

Senator Shelley B. Mayer and Assembly Member Amy Paulin issued the following comments in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s veto of their bill, S.7001/A.7616, that aims to reform New York’s Prompt Contracting Law to ensure nonprofits are paid on time, treated fairly, and equipped to continue delivering essential safety net services across the state.

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer said,“In a time of severe federal cutbacks to nonprofit funding, New York must step up and do everything possible to keep these vital organizations operating. From child-care to food pantries, from domestic violence shelters to after-school programs and beyond, these groups deliver essential services to our communities. We will continue to push for meaningful reform and look forward to finding solutions in this coming year’s state budget so these persistent and troublesome delays can be addressed.”

Assemblymember Amy Paulin said, “Nonprofits provide essential care in every corner of our state, and our bill would give them the timely and predictable payments they need. I’m committed to advancing reforms that strengthen their stability so they can continue serving the New Yorkers who depend on them.”
