Republican gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani is Mike Carpinelli’s pick for New York’s next governor. On April 22, at the Edge Hotel in Lyons Falls, the Lewis County sheriff formally announced that he is dropping out of the race to get behind Giuliani, citing the lifelong friendship he developed with his former opponent, whom he said has always been a teammate.
“I want New York State to realize that they have a candidate. They have a strong person that has the heart of this state, has the heart of all the people of New York State, not just New York City. He genuinely cares about upstate New York as well. He has the values, he has the family ties, the grounding and the heart of our constitution,” Carpinelli said.
Giuliani, who presented a campaign hat to Carpinelli during their joint press conference, praised the sheriff’s campaign and career, saying, “Everything you did in facing down our 56th governor, I look at one challenge above anything else, and it’s making sure we end this war on police. Whether it’s from midtown Manhattan to Rochester to right here in Lewis county, the police are part of our solution, not part of our problem.”
Giuliani also noted that Carpinelli’s gubernatorial run has been an inspiration to him.
