Putnam GOP Files Ethics Complaint Against Assembly Candidate Daniel Guzman

Complaint cites financial disclosure filed 61 days late and omission of more than $87,000 in school district earnings

Putnam County Republican Committee Chairman Andres Gil announced that a formal ethics complaint was filed on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with the New York State Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (COELIG), requesting an investigation into the financial disclosure filed by Daniel Guzman, Democratic candidate for the 94th Assembly District.

The complaint identifies two central issues: Guzman’s financial disclosure was submitted 61 days after the applicable deadline, and it failed to identify his employment with the Mahopac Central School District, which paid him $87,309.44 in 2025, according to official District payroll records.

Guzman’s own campaign website confirms his employment with the District, stating that he “currently works as a custodian in the Mahopac school district.”

“How does a candidate receive more than $87,000 from a public school district and leave that employer off his financial disclosure?” said Gil. “This is a substantial omission involving information the law is specifically designed to make public. It demands a serious investigation.”

The complaint also raises questions about Guzman’s disclosure of his position with Pa’lante Para Todos Inc. and his ownership and operation of MUSART Music Management.

Under Public Officers Law §73-a, violations meeting the applicable statutory standard may result in civil penalties of up to $40,000.

“We filed this complaint because financial disclosure requirements must apply equally to everyone seeking public office,” Gil concluded. “The evidence warrants a full review, and the appropriate ethics authorities should determine whether violations occurred and impose the penalties authorized by law.”
