Purchase College Celebrates the Ribbon Cutting for New ADA Compliant Bus Stop, with $250K Grant from Senator Mayer

State Investment Spearheaded by Senator Shelley B. Mayer Made Upgrades Possible

New York State Senator Shelley B. Mayer joined Purchase College President, Milagros “Milly” Peña and other College leaders on Thursday, November 14 at 3:30pm to celebrate the ribbon cutting of a new ADA compliant bus stop which was made possible, along with other accessibility upgrades, by substantial state funding in the amount of $250,00 spearheaded by Senator Mayer.

Senator Mayer and President Peña were joined by Purchase College staff from the Office of Disability Resources and students who spoke about the importance of ensuring that the campus is fully accessible to all who work, study, and visit the campus.

Purchase College President Milagros “Milly” Peña said, “Upgrading our entry to and from campus and within our campus, is at the heart of our commitment to fostering a community that is safe, accessible, and accepting, and where students of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities are welcome and valued. On behalf of Purchase College, I am grateful to Senator Mayer for her continued support of our community and for her dedication to removing barriers to public education.”

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “I am pleased to have helped secure $250,000 in state funding for Purchase College to develop a fully ADA compliant bus stop and to attend this ceremony alongside President Peña and members of the Purchase College community. This important upgrade will ensure members of our community with varying abilities have access to the campus. I thank President Peña and Purchase College for their outstanding commitment to accessibility. Special thanks to Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for providing our community with the resources to make this substantial improvement.”
