Feedback From Local Businesses to Help Guide Construction Planning for Needed, Multi-Benefit Electric Transmission Project
Propel NY Energy, a collaboration between the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York Transco, today announced the expansion of a voluntary survey to include businesses located along or near its finalized underground transmission route in Suffolk County, Queens, the Bronx, and Westchester County. Previously, the survey was available for Nassau County and New Rochelle businesses, where a final route had already been identified. With the project team now having finalized the full 90-mile route, the survey has been expanded to include the entire project footprint.
The survey is designed to gather information and feedback about local business operations that can aid in construction planning and sequencing and maximize efficiencies. While the transmission project is still in its permitting stage, the project team is gathering local business input for planned construction activities expected to begin later this year.
The survey – geared toward businesses of all sizes and types – will collect details such as business hours, location specifications, parking availability, number of employees, seasonal changes in operations, and other considerations.
“From the start, our approach has been to engage early, communicate often, and ensure our process is inclusive, bringing in as many voices as possible from the local communities,” said Shannon Baxevanis, Director of Communications & Public Affairs, New York Transco. “This survey will give area businesses a direct way to share their operational needs with us, so we can plan construction in a way that supports their continued success while we deliver critical infrastructure that benefits all New Yorkers.”

This business survey will help us understand business needs so that the project team can factor this information into planning and construction execution efforts.”
Businesses along the route will receive a postcard mailer inviting them to complete the survey. To further maximize participation, Propel NY Energy is partnering with local chambers of commerce to help disseminate the survey.

Propel NY Energy will install approximately 90 miles of new underground and submarine transmission lines to strengthen grid reliability and resiliency. The project will improve the flow of energy across parts of Long Island, New York City and Westchester County, supporting a stronger statewide electric grid. Currently in the permitting phase, construction is expected to begin in late 2026 at discrete areas along the route and proceed in phases to meet the 2030 in-service date.
