Albert R. McEvoy, 81, peacefully passed away in Debary, FL, on April 27th, 2024.
Born in Yonkers, NY, on November 20th, 1942 to Albert McEvoy and Catherine Taaffe McEvoy (both deceased). He attended Yonkers schools before enlisting in the Air Force. Albert served his country with honor in the Air Force from 1959, stationed in Peshawar, Pakistan, until his honorable discharge in 1963 as Airman First Class. His dedicated service continued as he embarked on a distinguished career with the Yonkers Police Department in August 1964. Throughout his tenure, Albert played pivotal roles in various departments and projects, including serving as the commanding officer of the Planning and Development Unit, graduating from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, leading the Training Unit, receiving training from the US Secret Service, overseeing the Planning and Management Unit, and serving as police commissioner during the visit of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, on October 6th, 1995. He retired from the Yonkers Police Department after 36 years of dedicated service on March 3rd, 2000. Even after retiring, Albert remained active with the police force, volunteering his time to solve cold cases with Daytona Beach Police Department. Albert’s contributions spanned across different departments and projects, showcasing his versatility and dedication to public service.
In addition to his remarkable career achievements, Albert pursued higher education, earning degrees in Criminal Justice from Westchester Community College and Iona College. He furthered his knowledge and skills through advanced studies at the NYU Graduate School of Public Administration. Albert’s lifelong pursuit of learning exemplified his dedication to personal and professional growth.
Albert McEvoy will be dearly remembered by his devoted wife, Donna, cherished daughters Jeanne Yang Pauliny and Ann Yang, and as a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren Izabela and Ludo Jr. Pauliny. He also leaves behind his beloved siblings Catherine Anne Quinlivan, Christine Arimento, and John McEvoy as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Albert was pre-deceased by siblings Maureen McEvoy-Albright and Lorraine White. His legacy of service, kindness, and dedication will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
