On May 3, Coach Vic Chiappa of the Yonkers Brave presented Nuryel Benitez of the Brave with the Yonkers Rising Football Player of the Year Award at Lincoln High School. This award is given to the top player from each of Yonkers’ two football teams, the Yonkers Brave and the Yonkers Force.

Last week, Coach Dan Dematteo presented Elijah Cummings with his award as the top player from the Yonkers Force.

Nuryel makes Yonkers proud. He will soon graduate from Palisades Prep. Not only is he a great football player, but he excels in the classroom. He has received a full scholarship to Manhattan College starting in this fall.

“Nuryel was our most versatile player, kicking off, kicking extra points, punting in addition to playing on both offense and defense,” said Chiappa. “He excels in the classroom and plays the guitar. Nuryel is very family orientated and was a pleasure to coach. I will miss him.”
