On September 22, 2026, at approximately 3:24 p.m., New York State Police in Somers responded to the Bedford Service Area on southbound Interstate 684 for a report of public lewdness.
Upon arrival, Troopers located Virgil J. Naveda, 56, of Darien, Connecticut, naked at the rest area and exhibiting signs of impairment. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, after which Naveda was taken into custody.
An impound and inventory search of Naveda’s vehicle revealed approximately 66 grams of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), 49 grams of butanediol, 7 grams of methamphetamine, and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.
Naveda was arrested and charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B felony
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A misdemeanor
- Public Lewdness, a Class B misdemeanor (three counts)
- Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor
On September 24, 2026, Naveda was arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court, released on his own recognizance, and directed to return to court on September 30, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
