Mount Pleasant to Step Back in Time for America’s 250th Anniversary

The Town of Mount Pleasant will honor the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a free living-history event on April 18.

“Colonial Mount Pleasant” is a dramatic look at local life during the Revolutionary War. The program, presented by The Daughters of Liberty’s Legacy, features renowned master storyteller Jonathan Kruk.

Known as the “Best Storyteller in the Hudson Valley,” Kruk will transport the audience to 1776, sharing the stories of the colonial neighbors who once walked the same streets and served in the fight for American liberty.

“As we commemorate 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, we don’t need to look beyond our own borders to find the heartbeat of the American Revolution,” said Mount Pleasant Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi. “Our town is steeped in the stories of those who stood for liberty right here.”

Event Highlights

  • Historical Presentation: A deep dive into Mount Pleasant’s role in the Revolution held within the sanctuary of the 1818 Hawthorne Reformed Church.
  • Patriot Cemetery Tour: Following the talk, attendees can participate in a guided tour of the church cemetery, highlighting the resting places and legacies of local Patriots.
  • Community Refreshments: A “meet and greet” session will follow, featuring refreshments provided by the church.

This event offers a rare opportunity for modern residents to stand in the footsteps of their ancestors and understand the high stakes of the Revolutionary War within their own community.
