Motorcycle Club Adopts Shrub Oak Thoroughfare

The Hudson River Antique Riders has adopted East Main Street in Shrub Oak as part of a community cleanup effort.

The motorcycle club joined Yorktown’s Adopt-A-Road program by committing to cleaning up a stretch of East Main Street between Old Yorktown Road and Stony Street. Ken Geiger of the Hudson River Antique Riders said that the club chose East Main Street because of its location.

“We have our bike meetups on the second Sunday morning of the month at the Lakeland Deli. We found out what the process was, and we rolled with it,” said Geiger, who helped to unveil a new Adopt-A-Road sign on Tuesday near the deli.

Any community group or business can participate in Yorktown’s Adopt-A-Road program. Groups must clean their road six times a year with a two-year commitment. The Town provides garbage bags, letter grabbers and safety vests for the cleanups.

“I want to thank the Hudson River Antique Riders because you have chosen to beautify the Town of Yorktown,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “It’s an important part of Yorktown. It’s historic; it’s one of our most beautiful and scenic roads; and it’s also named after one of Shrub Oaks’ favorite sons, (former Supervisor) Tom Diana. So, this road really means a lot, and your care for Yorktown also comes through.”

To join the Adopt-A-Road program, call the Refuse and Recycling department at 914-245-4438.
