Karen Beltran

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced his appointment of Karen T. Beltran as City Court Judge for the City of Yonkers. Mayor Spano will swear in Beltran on Sunday, February 5 at 11AM at Yonkers City Hall.

“I am proud to appoint Karen Beltran as our newest City Court Judge,” said Mayor Spano. “Karen has been in public service for 20 years, serving the Westchester community, especially as it pertains to procedural and family law. Karen’s professionalism, deep knowledge and experience in litigation will prove to be a great asset to the Yonkers City Court system.”

Beltran joins the Yonkers City Court bench after serving as the Deputy Administrator for Westchester County’s Independent Office of Assigned Counsel and as the Senior Assistant County Attorney for the County’s Family Law and Litigation Bureaus. Beltran previously served as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Beltran holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law and Bachelor of Arts from Purchase College.

Beltran commented, “I express genuine gratitude to Mayor Spano for this Yonkers City Court appointment. I thank him for recognizing the immense responsibility and importance of judicial appointments and for his confidence in me.  As a child from an immigrant family, a proud Yonkers Public Schools and SUNY graduate and as a long-time public servant, this accomplishment is truly a community effort. I pledge to uphold our community values of resilience and perseverance while on the bench.  I look forward to serving the public with respect, perspective and fairness.”

Yonkers Chief Judge Hon. Arthur J. Doran stated, “I am very excited that Karen Beltran will be joining our Bench.  She brings with her a long history of civic contribution here in Yonkers, that together with her vast legal expertise will prove as an invaluable asset as a Yonkers City Court Judge”.

Beltran fills the vacant seat left by Judge Elena Goldberg-Velazquez and will run for a full 10-year term in the November 2023 election. Beltran joins Chief Judge Hon. Arthur J. Doran, III, Hon. Karen N. Best, Hon. Evan Inlaw, Hon. Ada D. Medina, Hon. Daniel P. Romano and Hon. Verris B. Shako on the Yonkers City Court bench.

It is also interesting to note that Beltran ran for Yonkers Mayor against Spano in 2019. Beltran has also served as the President of the Yonkers Council of PTA/PTSAs.
