Mayor Mike Spano will be joined by members of the Yonkers community at two events on Friday, September 11 to remember and honor the 26 Yonkers residents who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in 2001 and those who have passed due to the effects of the tragic event.
The City’s remembrance ceremonies will take place at the Yonkers 9/11 Waterfront Memorial (Water Grant St.) at 8:30 AM and at Conor Park at 7:00 PM, where the City dedicated a monument derived from a 38-foot, 4,000 lb. piece of World Trade Center steel.
For the third year in a row, Yonkers City Hall will also participate in the Tribute in Light, a nationwide remembrance where buildings, bridges, and landmarks light up in blue. YonkersTron on the corner of New Main Street and Nepperhan Avenue will have a special display showcasing the photos and names of the 26 lives lost in the attacks. Additionally, Yonkers City Hall TV will feature a memorial tribute with photos and names commemorating the lives lost.
