Sean Patrick Maloney, right at a recent LWV debateBy Dan Murphy The campaigns of Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney and Assemblyman Mike Lawler hurled accusations against each other as the campaign in NY-17 heads into the final two weeks. Some polls have Maloney ahead, while another recent poll has Lawler in the lead. The reliable Cook Report has the race still leaning in Maloney’s favor. On Oct. 17, Maloney challenged Lawler for his record in the Assembly voting on taxes. “Time and time again, Mike Lawler has put the MAGA agenda and corporate special interests ahead of the needs of our communities. In Albany, he fought for tax breaks for billionaires despite throwing Hudson Valley taxpayers under the bus by supporting Trump’s tax scam, which is still crushing middle-class families with the SALT cap. “I was proud to join local leaders who have spent years suffering from Lawler’s damaging policies and tax hikes — to highlight his repeated failures to deliver for local needs. I have a long record of fighting for Hudson Valley priorities. Lawler has a long record of fighting for whoever is writing him a check or offering a path to political power. That’s the choice for voters on November 8th,” said Maloney. Lawler continued to pound away at a narrative that Maloney is an absentee member of Congress for hs district, traveling around the world during difficult economic times for his constituents. Rep. Sean Maloney, Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), has been on a 10-city international junket while his constituents struggle with food and heating costs, according to his own staff, but the congressman is refusing to reveal where he’s been traveling, the campaign of congressional candidate Mike Lalwer today noted. Thanks to photographic evidence, though, it’s known that Mr. Maloney’s recent travels have included jaunts to Paris, London, Geneva, and Los Angeles. That leaves six mystery cities for Mr. Maloney to reveal to his constituents. “Mr. Maloney is supposed to be representing families in the Hudson Valley, but he seems to want to be anywhere other than in his district,” said Lawler spokesman William O’Reilly. “Hudson Valley families, who pay his salary, have a right to know where the absentee congressman has been spending his time, as they struggle with heating and grocery costs here at home. Is he really not going to let his employers know where’s been?”
