Lions Announce Peace Poster Contest Winners

Astrid Masson from The French-American School, Micah Deckinger from Rye Neck Middle School, and Daniel Chavez from Saints John & Paul School, have taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning the Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions local competition in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

The winners were announced on November 6, 2020 at a special presentation via ZOOM. The zoom was attended by the students, their families and the teachers. County Executive George Latimer stopped in to congratulate the young artists.

The Lions Peace Poster Contest is an annual worldwide competition for children 11-13, encouraging them to express their vision of world peace through art. This year’s theme is “Peace Through Service”.

A winning poster from each school was selected by a panel of judges, which included Amanda Schlumberger, Carey Federspiel and Laura Bott, based on originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “Peace Through Service” The winning posters will advance through the district into the international competition, with the International winner announced at a United Nations event in the spring.

In addition to the winners, the following students received honorable mentions: Benjamin Ashby & Kewe Somlay from The French American School, Myli Bruno & Raphael Tan from Rye Neck Middle School, and Liliana Grippa & Mathias Tsuji-Giralt from Saints John & Paul School.
This year’s contest was particularly challenging for these students and teachers. The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions are proud to have worked with Victoria Rolett from the French-American School, Trisha Appel from Rye Neck Middle School and Angela Howard from Saints John & Paul in their efforts to bring this contest to the community and provide these students with the opportunity to share their visions of peace during these difficult times.
