Light Up Yonkers – Domino Sugar Unveils LED Welcome Sign

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano with Yonkers Refinery Manager Tiffany Dunnell, of ASR Group.

The Domino Sugar refinery unveiled a new LED welcome sign in Yonkers last night. The sign, measuring 4 feet by 30 feet, combines the newly refreshed Domino Sugar logo with the city’s name in lettering that pays homage to the iconic sign on the Yonkers Recreation Pier downtown. The YONKERS letters are illuminated with color-changing LEDs that can be adjusted seasonally.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Yonkers, Mike Spano. “We take great pride in global companies that chose to make their products here in Yonkers and Domino Sugar just makes life a little sweeter here in this city,” said Mayor Spano.

“Our new sign signals our company’s continued dedication to our refinery, our employees, our community and the City of Yonkers,” said Yonkers Refinery Manager Tiffany Dunnell, of ASR Group. “We’re proud to call Yonkers home and plan to be here for generations to come.”

The Yonkers Refinery provides well-paying, union jobs for generations of families. Forty vessels a year deliver to the plant more than 515,000 tons of raw sugar, which is refined at a rate of more than 4.3 million pounds per day. The refinery’s eight packaging lines produce 25 different premium products and package sizes.

The company invests millions of dollars annually in the regional economy through local purchasing, contracting and sales, property and payroll taxes. It also invests in the local community around the refinery through partnerships with local non-profits – such as Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE), Feeding Westchester, the Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club, the Yonkers Downtown/Waterfront BID and Greyston Foundation – and supports STEM educational programming at local schools.
