Jamaican Flag Raising at Yonkers City Hall

Mayor Mike Spano, County Legislator Shanae Williams, Councilwoman Deana Robinson welcomed the Jamaican-American community to Yonkers City Hall for a flag raising and celebration.

On August 6, 1962, Jamaica became an Independent Nation and a member of the British Commonwealth. Jamaica becoming an Independent Nation meant that Britain, no longer controlled the affairs of the country. It was now the responsibility of the newly elected Prime Minister and the locally elected Cabinet.
County Legislator Williams was the guest speaker and was born in Jamaica but was raised in Yonkers.
