With the 250 th anniversary celebration of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, the Hudson River Patriots Chapter of the National Daughters of the Revolution (NDAR) received a National DAR grant to
purchase books focused on the American Revolution for classrooms in their local area. The grant was designed to help students learn about the Revolutionary War, our soldiers, patriots and all men and women who contributed to our freedom.

After careful deliberation of submissions from Chapters throughout the country, the National DAR selected the Hudson River Patriots Chapter NDAR to receive one of the grants! After thorough investigation of potential area recipients, Hudson River Patriots selected two Yonkers schools, Sacred Heart School and Montessori School #31, to receive Revolutionary War themed books to help students learn what happened in the Neutral Zone, Yonkers and our Westchester area, during those times.

The chapter used the grant to purchase books selected by Social Studies’ teachers at both schools.

The Hudson River Patriots Chapter, NDAR, was organized in 2001 when three long-standing chapters merged to better meet the needs of women in the Rivertowns of Westchester County; these chapters were Yonkers’ Keskeskick Chapter organized in 1895, the Tarrytown Chapter organized in 1925, and Hastings’ General Jacob Odell Chapter organized in 1932.

This project was organized by Hudson River Patriot Regent Cindy Pramann and Regent Emeritus Philomena Dunn.
