Congratulations to Croton Harmon High School junior Henry Martin for being named a Con Edison Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Henry was the first Croton-Harmon wrestler to ever place in the New York State Championships In doing so, he won three matches, increasing his single season win total to 42 wins (only 3 losses). Martin has been an all-league wrestler in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons, and was all-league in Football for his sophomore season.

Henry is active in the Boy Scouts and is working towards achieving Eagle Scout. He also volunteers at Veterans and Memorial Day events in his community, and also volunteers for the Harry Chapin run against hunger.

“Henry has een an exemplary student this year, demonstrating tremendous effort both inside and outside of the classroom. What I find most remarkable about Henry is that his work ethic is contagious in the classroom. He makes the students around him better students. It is clear that he possesses natural leadership skills as he consistently motivates, challenges and encourages his peers. It is clear that Henry is self-disciplined and motivated to succeed as a wrestler, which in turn helps him stay disciplined and motivated in the classroom,” said lzabella Zappa Math Teacher.

Henry has a 3.5 GPA, and has taken a challenging academic curriculum at Croton-Harmon High School.

“Henry’s willingness to learn and continually seeks opportunities for constructive feedback whenever he can. Throughout this school year in AP US History, we focus heavily on crafting evidence-based argumentative analyses of historical events. Henry approaches this by crafting a strong thesis and identifying sources that would support his claims. Henry’s goal is to push himself as a writer and to not simply re-tell history but to challenge it,” said Hana Mcconville, History Teacher
