If President Joe Biden was unable to prove that he had the mental capacity to run for reelection and serve for another four years after his debate with former President Donald Trump, then lets take the next step. Does President Biden have the mental capacity to serve the American people for the remaining six months of his term?
Has the American people seen enough of President Biden’s decline? Should the President’s cabinet invoke the 25th Amendement and remove him from office? Section 4 of the 25th Amendment—which has never been used, permits a majority of the Cabinet to deem the president “unable to discharge the duties of the office.”
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has raised that possiblity, along with another republican, US Senator Tom Tillis. And Cornell Law Professor William Jacobson, wrote, “This debate displayed Biden’s severely declined cognitive ability for all the world to see for an hour and a half… No honest person who watched last night’s debate can think that Biden mentally is up to the job of being President.”
While Jacobson also wrote, “The media cannot claim the live video feed from CNN was a manipulated ‘cheap fake’ — the smear campaign used against those of us who have been pointing out the obvious for over a year, but particularly recently with Biden visibly freezing and zoning out in public appearances.”
But in fact, the opposite is now true, with most of the mainstream media calling for Biden not to run for reelection, including CNN and MSNBC and Rachel Maddow in their post debate coverage. And on Sunday’s Meet the Press, the calls continued for Biden not to run.
Some are wondering what the national security implications are, with Jacobson writing that “Biden’s cognitive decline is a national security threat of the highest order.”
Speaker Johnson said, “Our adversaries see the weakness in this White House as we all do. I take no pleasure in saying that. I think this is a very dangerous situation. There’s a lot of people asking about the invoking the 25th Amendment because this is an alarming situation,”
If President Biden is removed or resigns, Vice-President Kamala Harris will take the oath of office. And some believe that whoever is behind the idea to move the debate up to June, and expose Biden’s frailties, also realizes and understands that Harris will either become President or the democratic nominee for President.
