Fugitive James Vastola Arrested by Pleasantville Police

Mt. Pleasant Officer Spots Him at Metro-North Station

The Pleasantville Police Department is announcing the arrest of James Vastola, age 32, in connection with a recent domestic incident.

At 5:19pm on December 18th, the Pleasantville Police Department received a call from a member of the community that they believed they recognized the man wanted in connection with the domestic incident that occurred on December 10 walking south on Commerce Street in Thornwood. A clothing description was provided, and members of both the Pleasantville and Mount Pleasant Police Departments commenced a search of the area.

A Mount Pleasant officer located a man matching the description near the Hawthorne railroad station. He was positively identified as James Vastola, arrested, and transported to the Pleasantville Police Department Headquarters for processing. He was arraigned by the Village Justice on four charges, including:

-Arson in the Second Degree, a B Violent Felony,

-Assault in the Second Degree, a D Violent Felony,

-Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, a D Felony, and

-Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a D Felony.

Following the arraignment, bail was set at $100,000 cash / $250,000 bond, and Mr. Vastola was transported to the Westchester County Jail.

The Pleasantville Police Department would like to thank the numerous agencies who assisted in this investigation, from the day of the incident through the search which eventually brought him to justice. The Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Ossining Police Department, the Sleepy Hollow Police Department, the Yonkers Police Department, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, the New York State Division of Parole and the United States Marshals Service were all committed to Vastola’s capture, and all played vital roles to arrive at this successful conclusion.
