Former TV Exec. Opens Bakeshop in Larchmont

Some of the treats available at The Snackery Bakeshop in Larchmont

The first brick-and-mortar location of Sara Snacker Cookie Company, The Snackery Bakeshop, has opened its doors at 1985 Palmer Ave., Larchmont. Combining sugar, butter, flour and a touch of nostalgia, The Snackery Bakeshop is family owned and operated, serving baked cakes, cookies, and a mix of old classic treats and some new ones for families across the Sound Shore.

Between the sweet and salty mix of the salted chocolate pretzel tart and the soft marshmallow center of the homemade moon pies, find yourself transported by flavors that are at once pleasantly familiar and surprisingly unique. CEO and Founder Sara Leand brings an impressive background in the bakery space to this new venture.

The Snackery Bakeshop is the product of more than a decade of hard work for Leand, who is a self-made pro and has had a longstanding passion for creating delectable nibbles. From the moment she got her first Easy Bake Oven, Leand learned to wield a spoon with an extra dash of imagination. While at the University of Arizona, she ran a small cookie company out of her college dorm room, selling cookies and treats throughout the campus and at a number of local stores – and achieving much acclaim for her tasty treats.

Leand had to put the business on hold when it started taking too much time away from her studies (much to the disappointment of her roommates).

After graduation, Leand spent several years in Los Angeles, where she worked as a television agent and later ran her own television production company, creating and producing shows for E!, Lifetime, Oxygen and TLC. Happily married to her biggest fan and a new mom, the East Coast native moved back to Manhattan and created Sara Snacker Cookie Company in 2008. Leand’s plan was to first sell her products online and eventually wholesale. However, plans changed when her company became far more successful than she had anticipated.

In 2009, Leand launched her first delicacy, the Chipn’etzel, to rave reviews. This was followed by the Candypop cookie, her Gotta Love a Fluffernutter, and other treats that bring back warm, childhood memories.

She has sold her delicious delicacies to Citarella, and DeCicco & Sons, among others.

Now a mother of three, Leand’s rapid successes led her to open The Snackery Bakeshop and bring her “American iconic classics with a twist” home to Larchmont.

The Snackery Bakeshop is all about memories. Leand remembers the innocent days when warm summer nights meant S’mores and the tweets you heard about were from actual birds. Life wasn’t complicated, and neither were the snacks. This is the mantra at The Snackery Bakeshop, the sweetest bakery to grace Larchmont and Westchester County. The recipes are meant to remind customers of childhood and also to help customers forge new reminiscences with their families.

Namesakes aside, this bakeshop offers “old school” flair through decadent cakes whose layers can be filled with candy or sprinkles, adorned with butter cream or chocolate flowers. “Larchmont is such a great community and I knew it would be a perfect location for the bakery,” said Leand. “I am doing something I love and that I always wanted to do, and it’s something that really puts smiles on people’s faces.”

The Snackery Bakeshop specializes in baked confections, retro treats and signature custom cakes. Adults and children alike will enjoy tempting and nostalgic desserts, including “from scratch” Red Velvet Ring Dings, homemade Moonpies, O’reos, and Twinkie Bundt cake. strawberry pop tarts, cream cheese biscuits and chutri muffins are also popular.

The bakeshop also plans to offer small bites, including homemade turkey and swiss hot pockets, and catering options, as well as 100 percent Arabica bean coffee and Malongo espresso.

Leand credits her grandmother as her primary source of inspiration. A baker in her own right, she became a victim of Alzheimer’s disease several years ago. As such, The Snackery Bakeshop is committed to doing its part to help those afflicted with this disease, and has pledged a portion of its profits to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, in addition to yearly contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Snackery Bakeshop is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday For more information, visit www.snackerybakeshop.com.
