“I’m excited to endorse @VanessaBAgudelo for NY Assembly District 95 in the Hudson Valley! Vanessa has led the fight against pollution of her community by fossil fuel companies. Join her fight now for a GND, housing for all & universal healthcare: http://vanessaforny.com,” posted Nixon.
Agudelo said, “I’m excited to announce that our campaign has been endorsed by Cynthia Nixon! During her run for governor, she came to Peekskill to join our fight against the Spectra pipeline. I’m so proud to have her support,” said Agudelo on May 13.
Agudelo is running against democrats Ossining Supervisor Dana Levenberg and County Legislator Colin Smith. Agudelo is from Peekskill and recently served on the Peekskill Common Council.
Agudelo posted the following concerning her efforts to make New York State more environmentally friendly. “I’m proud to be part of the statewide fight for public power and the Build Public Renewables Act. The Assembly Corporations Committee passed the bill out of committee this week and we’re just getting started!A few years ago I helped organize some of the first efforts to fight for public power and the Build Public Renewables Act (BPRA) in the Hudson Valley. In NY we have the largest state owned utility in the US, the NY Power Authority (NYPA). We could be building our own renewables here in the Hudson Valley. But NYPA is legally limited from building or owning utility-scale renewable generation. The Green New Deal starts with public power!
“Only one Democrat, the committee chair, voted against the bill in committee. She represents a district in Westchester adjacent to mine. In 2019 she voted against the historic 2019 rent laws. This is the political establishment we’re up against in Westchester. They use the disorganization in districts like mine to protect the wealthiest NYers, like the fossil fuel executives who oppose us.I’m inspired by my Green New York slate mates who put this bill on the map. Our campaigns were part of a strategy from the start.Albany has passed NO significant climate reforms since 2019. Politicians blocking live saving measures need to be reformed or replaced. Delaying action is climate denial. Only the credible threat of a mass people-powered movement from campaigns like ours has been able to force action from some of the very politicians getting challenged.”
The Chair of the Assembly Corporations Committee is Assemblymember Amy Paulin. Agudelo is running on the Working Families Party line in November, regardless of the outcome of the democratic primary on June 23.
