Troublesome Brook along Scarsdale Road and Manhattan Avenue crossings has lived up to its name for far too long. With more than $6.6 million in State funding, Yonkers will tackle chronic flooding through critical culvert replacements and streambank stabilization, protecting homes, streets, and our community for the long term. Thank you to Governor Kathy Hochul and our State delegation for this important investment in clean water, climate resilience, and the long-term protection of our community,” said Mayor Mike Spano.
Governor Kathy Hochul made the announcement. RWG awards include two projects in Yonkers, where an announcement was made with State and local partners. The City of Yonkers will receive two grants totaling more than $6.66 million for culvert replacement and streambank stabilization along Troublesome Brook near the Scarsdale Road and Manhattan Avenue crossings.
Councilman Mike Breen, who lives in the flood zone, said, “After years of advocating for the necessary funding to address the ongoing flooding at Troublesome Brook, I’m grateful that New York State has recognized just how serious this issue is and why it needed to be addressed. This has been a long-standing problem for our community, impacting residents, infrastructure, and quality of life. Securing the resources to fix it is an important step forward, and it shows what can be accomplished when we continue to push for real solutions and refuse to let critical issues be ignored. I look forward to seeing this project move ahead and deliver the lasting improvements our community deserves.”
