What is the difference between CBD and THC? Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), are two natural compounds found in cabbabis plants. CBD usually comes from Hemp, while THC comes from Marijuana.
CBD may have a very small amount of THC if it comes from Marijuana, but gives you no “high.” THC is the component in marijuana that does get you high. Both come in edible forms, and that is where the confusion comes if both are in a home.
CBD has become a popular medication for pain, anxiety and seizures. THC produces a sense of euphoria but can also be dangerous if consumed by children or someone who is not used to how it effects your mind. Or for someone who thinks they are taking CBD, consuming THC can be a scary experience.
In New York State, both CBD and THC are legal, because Marijuana in now legal in NY. And several other states have legalized marijuana, while 33 states have passed medical marijuana laws permitting a Doctor to prescribe it for their patients.
CBD gummies and oils can be found at most local pharmacies. THC gummies and oils cannot be found yet in any legal NY State store. That is because Governor Hochul has yet to approve any licenses to sell THC or marijuana. This causes even more confusion because while THC and Marijuana is legal in NY, you cannot yet legally buy it in NY. But you can buy it in Massachusetts.
It is also important to check to dosage of CBD gummies, which can come in 10mg, 25mg, 100mg and higher. A lower dose of CBD can be used for focus, relaxation, general health and sleep. Some use higher doses for headaches and anxiety. Higher doses are used for chronic pain and depression. All doses are based on your weight.
Side effects for THC are the same as if you smoke pot; increased heart rate, anxiety, decrease is coordinaton and slower reaction times.
CBD’s side effects are minimal, and only for a small number of those who take it. They include: fatigue, weight loss and diarrhea. Neither is fatal.
But for adolescents who consume large amounts of THC, there is the risk of psychiatric effects. Which is why it is important to keep THC away from children, and to identify CBD and THC if both are in your home.
