Bally’s Bronx Casino Plans: Overcoming Challenges and Building Community Impact

When it comes to discussions about building and opening casinos, opinions can vary widely depending on who you talk to. Bally’s Corporation, a well-known name in the casino and entertainment industry, has built a long-standing reputation in gaming. With years of experience, they’re now offering Bronx residents an opportunity to engage with a gaming facility that could be located right in their backyard.

Bally’s plans to construct a casino next to an existing golf course at Ferry Point, offering locals the opportunity to acquire a 10% stake in the project. While traditional casinos continue to expand, online gambling platforms, such as a Discord casino that integrates casino-style games within a chat platform, have also gained significant popularity.

Since online casinos are illegal in New York, platforms like Discord casinos operate in a legal grey area, where the regulations surrounding offshore gambling remain unclear. However, for those who prefer online gaming, these platforms offer appealing benefits, including generous bonuses and live dealer games that allow players to bet in real time. Their convenience and variety attract those seeking a more flexible gambling experience.

With the rise of online gambling options, physical casinos remain a preferred choice for those who enjoy the immersive atmosphere of in-person gaming.

Besides a stake in the casino, Bally’s has also committed to giving back to the community, pledging at least 1% of its gross revenue to initiatives such as educational programs, mental health services, and housing projects.

This is not an unusual move for casinos, as many have taken steps to support their surrounding communities. Casinos across the country have made significant charitable contributions, particularly to improve education, public health, and other community services.

Bally’s is already helping by providing a free bus shuttle that connects the Ferry Point location to other parts of the Bronx. This shuttle will make the casino more accessible, not only for potential patrons but also for community members who might need transportation for other purposes.

Despite these promising benefits, the project still faces significant challenges. One of the major obstacles Bally’s must overcome is securing legislative approval to repurpose part of the parkland where the casino would be built. To make this happen, they’ll need the support of key Bronx legislators, such as State Senator Nathalia Fernandez and Assemblyman Michael Benedetto. Bally’s is actively working to gain support for an alienation bill that would allow the land to be designated for commercial use. Without this approval, Bally’s would not be able to secure a casino license.

While the project is still in its early stages, Bally’s remains optimistic about gaining the necessary approvals. However, they’re not the only ones with big plans. Mets owner Steve Cohen has proposed his own ambitious $8 billion casino complex near Citi Field in Queens.

Like Bally’s, Cohen will need legislative backing to move forward with his project. With the state of New York preparing to accept casino bids this summer, Bally’s is racing against the clock to secure its position in the competitive market.

If Bally’s succeeds in overcoming these hurdles, the casino could be the largest private development project the Bronx has ever seen. It would have the potential to significantly impact the borough’s economy and provide residents with a direct financial stake in the casino’s success. The future of this project will undoubtedly shape the landscape of gambling in New York, but for now, Bally’s is doing everything it can to make sure their vision becomes a reality.
