Sources have told Yonkers Times that Assemblyman Nader Sayegh, fresh off a decisive reelection victory on November 5, is considering a run for Westchester County Clerk. The current County Clerk, Tim Idoni, is not seeking reelection after serving for 12 years.

“Nader was just reelected by a large margin during a Red Wave of republican support and the election of Donald Trump. He has served the public in so many capacities. He has the experience and the knowledge, and as an attorney, can continue to serve in another capacity,” said one Yonkers democrat.

Yonkers Democratic Chair Tom Meier confirmed to Yonkers Times that Sayegh is under consideration, and that he has submitted a letter to the Westchester County Democratic Committee asking to be among the democratic nominees for County Clerk next year.

Sayegh’s lengthy resume of service includes success as a Teacher and Yonkers School Principal for 30 years, College Professor and President of the Yonkers Board of Education. Along the way he also acquired a degree in International Affairs from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Juris Doctor of Law from Pace University.

Sayegh is completing his sixth year in the NYS Assembly. He overachieved in his most recent victory, defeating John Isaac by a 56%-44% margin, impressing many democrats in Yonkers and across the county.

Yonkers City Clerk Vincent Spano, who was considering a run for County Clerk, said, “While I have carefully considered a run for County Clerk, an office that I hold dear to my heart as my father once served as County Clerk for 12 years, I have decided that I would like to remain focused on serving the people of Yonkers.”

“I am proud of the progress I have made as City Clerk, continuously offering more services such as our new Passport Division, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Division, and E-ZPass Division. In addition, I have implemented a new Ai system for council meetings where residents can listen to meetings in over 57 languages to provide as much as possible to the great residents of this city. I look forward to continuing this progress,” said City Clerk Spano.
