A New Year’s Tragedy: Bronxville Police Sergeant Kills His Wife & Children Before Taking His Own Life

Residents in Bronxville and Eastchester are in a state of shock after hearing the news that Bronxville Police Department Sergeant Watson Morgan killed himself and his wife and two young sons in a murder-suicide.

The incident occured in Rockland County, where the Morgan family lived. On Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 12:20 am, officers from the Clarkstown Police Department responded to 10 Clydesdale Ct. in New City to perform a welfare check.

Upon arrival officers made entry to the residence of the above-referenced location and discovered four deceased persons. The deceased were all identified as members of the Morgan family, Watson Morgan, 49/M, Ornela Morgan 43/F, and their two sons, ages 10 and 12. All four were found to have gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Watson Morgan is employed as a sergeant with the Bronxville (NY) Police Department. At this phase of the investigation it is believed that Watson killed his wife and two children, prior to killing himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun was recovered at the scene. This investigation is of an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger.

The Clarkstown Police Department – Detective Bureau will continue to investigate and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call them directly at (845)639-5840.

Sgt. Morgan was two months away from retirement. He had previously served in the NYPD, starting in 2000. He transfered to the Bronxville PD in 2007 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2016.

Neighbors of the Watson family said that there was no indication of troublem, calling them a perfect family.

Sgt. Watson was 49; his two sons were 10 and 12 and were attending the Clarkstown schools.  His wife, Ornela Morgan, was 43 and a teacher in New York City.

A statement from the Mayor of Bronxville and the Bronxville Police read, “It is with profoundly broken hearts at the senseless loss of innocent lives that we send this message to a grieving community. Sergeant Morgan failed to appear for the evening shift last night and our Police Department contacted the Clarkstown Police Department in his hometown who made the discovery.”

Our hearts go out to Sergeant Morgan’s extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are also with his Bronxville Police Department family. As we try to come to terms in a state of shock and sadness, we will continue to share with you what we can based on what the Clarkstown Police Department releases, as this is an ongoing investigation.”
