A Movie We Should All See: Sound of Freedom

Jim Caveizel Exposes the Horrors of Child Sex Trafficking

By Dan Murphy

Human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, is alive and well in the United States. Every year, millions of people in the world, including in the U.S., are bought and sold for the purposes of forced labor or sexual exploitation. It can happen to any demographic, any gender, any race or nationality. It is estimated that between 15,000 to 50,000 women and children are forced into sexual slavery in the United States every year.

The recent flood of migrants across the US-Mexican border has enabled the Drug Cartels to abuse young children and force them into sex slavery. Traffickers prey on individuals and families that are traveling, hungry, homeless, and sick. They may offer a job, or travel across the border, only to get the migrant away from their area of safety and force them into labor.

The movie Sound of Freedom, which opens this Forth of July weekend, is based on a true story of one man’s heroic efforts as he embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue children from human traffickers. His name is Tim Ballard, the feature character in the movie, portrayed by Jim Caviezel, best known for his portrayal of Jesus in The Passion of the Christ.

“I am so proud to be a part of this impactful film,” said Jim Caviezel, who portrays the lead. “In fact, I’d say this is the second most important film I’ve done after The Passion of the Christ.”Actress Mira Sorvino and actor Bill Camp are also in the film.

SOUND OF FREEDOM, based on the incredible true story, shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.
